Common questions
What counts as one anchor?
One anchor = one SHA-256 hash submitted. A 1,000-document batch costs 1,000 anchors from your quota. The eIDAS timestamp is shared across the batch via a Merkle tree — you pay for inclusion, not for the timestamp itself.
Do unused anchors roll over?
No — monthly quotas reset on the 1st of each month.
What happens if I exceed my quota?
It depends on the product. For Merkle Anchoring (paid plans), submissions continue without interruption and overage is billed per additional anchor: €0.008 on Developer, €0.005 on Business. The Free plan hard-stops at its monthly limit. For Tamper-Evident Logs, AI Act Decision Anchoring, and Audit Trail, there is no overage billing — submissions continue and you receive an email notification to upgrade your plan.
Can I use NIS2 or AI Act Anchoring without a Merkle Anchoring plan?
Yes. Tamper-Evident Logs and AI Act Decision Anchoring are standalone products. You don't need a Merkle Anchoring subscription to use either of them.
When do AI Act Article 12 obligations apply?
EU AI Act Article 12 record-keeping obligations apply to high-risk AI systems from August 2026. If your system falls under Annex III, you need tamper-evident audit logs from that date.
